Wayne Bruce Markell, affectionately known as Poppi, passed away on October 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by love, with his devoted and beautiful wife Annaliza by his side until the very end.

Wayne leaves behind his cherished children: Christopher Markell, Matthew Markell, and Shayna. His greatest joy was being Poppi to his grandchildren—Jaxx, Kali, and Thalia—who will forever hold dear his warmth and love. A remarkable father and an even more extraordinary grandfather, Wayne’s legacy of kindness and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A lifelong advocate for giving back, Wayne donated blood multiple times each year, a selfless act that saved countless lives. In his final days, he relied on blood transfusions, a poignant reminder of the importance of this gift. In honor of Wayne, please consider donating blood to continue his legacy of compassion—a simple act that saves millions of lives each year.

Wayne will be laid to rest in the Philippines, a place close to his heart. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held in the spring at St. John The Baptist In The Wilderness, Kilkenny, Quebec. Details of the service will be shared closer to the date. Special thank you to the nurses with the oncology team at the Lakeshore General Hospital. They made Wayne feel special, took very good care of him, and got to see him hold his head high with humour to the end.
