It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Wand (Cathy Sawyer) beloved wife, mother and friend, who left us suddenly on July 13th,2024 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
Cathy was born on March 11th, 1958 in Little Burgundy to Mary Moore and Arthur Wand. She married Tom Sawyer on October 13, 1979 and together they built a loving home while raising their son Leigh Sawyer.
Cathy is survived by her husband Tom Sawyer, son Leigh Sawyer, daughter in-law Jessica Smith, grandsons Grayson & Ryerson Sawyer, brother Gerry Wand, sister in-law Colleen Lemieux and sister in-law Debbie Morzajew. She is preceded in death by her brothers David, Stephen and Michael.
A memorial to honor Cathy’s life will be held at a later date. Additional details regarding the “Celebration of Life” will be shared once the arrangements are confirmed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre (click here), in the name of Catherine and her mother, Mary. The Tyndale Community Centre is a cause that is very special to the Wand family, as Cathy and her brothers benefited from Tyndale’s various activities and programs throughout their youth. Mary also served as the Early Childhood Program Director for over 30 years.
Cathy’s warmth, love, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We all find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. The family kindly askes for patience and understanding during this period of mourning. Thank you.
