Coffins are indeed chests in which the deceased is placed before cremation. Traditionally made of wood, they must be equipped with a sealing device at the bottom and four handles. The different types of coffins are usually called "Parisian," "Lyonnais," "tomb," "sarcophagus," or "chest."
