Bruce "Papa" Basilieres

Bruce "Papa" Basilieres, 78, of Montreal, Quebec, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with kidney disease on August 13, 2026, at the Royal Victoria hospital. We'd like to thank the staff there for their excellent care during such a difficult time.
Bruce was above all a connoisseur of Montreal, where he grew up and spent much of his life in Milton-Parc. He learned the city by heart both as a taxi driver and as an avid walker, often walking daily across the city to find a good bargain while tracking the changing culinary landscape and mapping independent secondhand bookstores.
He is survived by many family and chosen family members and lifelong friends, including siblings Sandy and Michel, niece and nephews Natalie (Claudio), Lucas, Pearson, Olivier, and Antonio, his only child Devon (Oliver), "Aunt" Nathalie, and grandson Dillon (Liz). He was devoted and reliable in his relationships, maintaining multiple friendships spanning over 50 years. He is dearly loved and will be missed deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce's name can be made to Heritage Montreal. We also encourage you to support a neighbourhood bookstore or have a lunch special at a restaurant.
A drop-in commemorative event will take place Sunday, September 13 at the Greek Workers Association at 5359 Parc, 11 am-2 pm.
