With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peggy Gale Prince on May 20, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born and raised in Montreal, Peggy grew up alongside her eight siblings in a large and loving family with parents Thomas and Annie (Jennings) Gale. Growing up in such a close-knit family shaped the values that guided her throughout her life: loyalty, generosity, and the importance of always being there for family.
Peggy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Prince, in 2023. Together for 55 years, they built a life centred on family, hard work, and love. Through joy and hardship, loss and illness, they stood by one another and found their greatest happiness in the family they built together and in watching it grow over the years.
She leaves behind her daughters, Christine and Brenda (Anthony Roberts), for whom she gave endless love, support, and care throughout her life. Peggy was a proud and loving Nanny to Ryan, Liam, Aidan, Claudia, and Owen. She took immense pride in watching her grandchildren grow into their own lives and accomplishments, and cherished the unique bond she shared with each of them. In her final years, she knew the special joy of becoming a bonus great-nanny to Easton and was overjoyed to meet her great-granddaughter, Ivy Rose.
Peggy is survived by her sisters, Eileen Gale Watts (the late Harold Watts) and Maureen Gale, with whom she shared a lifelong bond. Over the years, the loss of her siblings Ann (the late Stewart Mawhinney), Teresa (Eddy Slater), Tommy (Sandy Gale), Diane (the late Kenneth Murphy), Joe (Beth Gale), and Kevin (Debbie Rochette Gale) was carried deeply by Peggy and remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Peggy retired from the Bank of Montreal, where she made many lasting friendships. Some of the happiest memories of her life were made at Blue Haven Campground, a place that became a second home to family and friends over many decades. Summers at Blue Haven were filled with card games, campfires, music, laughter, and the kind of togetherness that created lifelong friendships and memories that will continue to be shared for years to come.
Peggy believed deeply that family was life's greatest blessing. She worked tirelessly and made countless sacrifices to ensure her children were raised with love, stability, support, and every opportunity possible. She taught by example that hard work mattered, kindness mattered, and family mattered most of all.
Peggy was known for her sharp wit, her blunt honesty, and her ability to tell it like it was. You never had to wonder where you stood with her. Beneath that strong exterior was a fiercely loyal heart. If you were one of her own, she would stand by you, defend you, and go to the ends of the earth for you. Her humour, strength, and steadfast love for the people she cared about will be remembered always by those fortunate enough to have known her.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude, in particular to Peggy's sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends, for the care, compassion, and support they gave so generously, especially during her declining health. Their kindness brought great comfort to Peggy and to her family.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 125 Grove Street, Greenfield Park, Quebec, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive condolences at the church
