It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Lois Joyce Gosse (née LeDrew) who succumbed after a long-fought battle with cancer.
Born October 6th, 1945, Lois died February 9th, 2024, at the age of seventy-eight. She was predeceased by her cherished husband, Garry Gosse, her mother Cecile More, her father Eric LeDrew, and her sisters-in-law, Norma Holland and Beverly Nickle. She leaves behind her beloved son Matthew Moses (Ariella) and cherished daughter Emily Cecile (Chris), as well as her sister Hazel Porter. Also left to mourn are her nieces and nephews: The Porters, Suzan and her daughter, Katherine; Robert and his children, Tommy and Sarah; Lisa and her children, Maggie and Porter; The Hollands, Glenn (Laurie Roch), their son Jonathan; Brent, Lorri, her sons Tyler and Ryan; The Nickles, Shari (Tony O'Connor); the late Warren, his son Zachary; Darren (Diane Allen) and their children Matt, Andy, and Jill. Also grieving are her extended family and her very dear friends.
Lois was reserved but she wasn’t quiet. Lois loved to gab with others, tell stories and even sing. Her love of storytelling extended to the experiences of others, which she would excitedly absorb and retell later in great detail (often with her signature theatricality). Lois’ excitement for learning was boundless and it shaped her choice of profession. For Lois, teaching was about imparting her love of learning to the children she taught. Learning was a part of her job from which she could never retire, and she continued her genealogical research and reading on history and biology into her final days.
A celebration of Lois’ life will be held at a date to be determined, and her burial will take place at the Mount Royal Cemetery on Saturday, June 1st at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society (click here).
