Raymond Maloney

1943-2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Raymond William Maloney Jr. on April 30, 2024, at the age of 80. He departed peacefully at LaSalle Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family.

Raymond, affectionately known as Papa Ray, is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Maloney Sr. and Blanche Prud’homme. He will be fondly remembered by his devoted wife and soulmate, Suzanne, his son John (Melissa), stepdaughters Lisa (Christian) and Kim (Tom), and his cherished grandsons Joey, Justin, Samuel (Sophie), Benjamin (Alexandra), and Tristan. He is also mourned by his sisters Shirley (Glen) and Diane (Gerald, predeceased), his brother Patrick (Marie-Claude), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A native of the Ottawa/Gatineau area and of proud Irish descent, Ray will be remembered for his zest for life, legendary sense of humor, and his kind and generous spirit. He found joy in running, golfing, skiing, and was passionate about curling. He lived for his family, including his four-legged best friend, Lizzy. He cherished moments spent by the stream or around a crackling fire, accompanied by a good cigar, a glass of scotch, and meaningful conversation. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.

With gratitude and enduring love, Ray will forever reside in our hearts. “Rest in peace, Papa Ray, xoxo.“

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate healthcare professionals at Les Pavillons LaSalle and LaSalle Hospital for their unwavering dedication and tender care of Ray during his time of need.

In commemoration of Ray's life and the profound impact he had on those around him, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society (click here). These donations will honor Ray's legacy and support ongoing efforts to alleviate the impact of this devastating disease.

Your kindness during this difficult time is sincerely appreciated.

Suzanne and Family, my deepest sympathy. My big brother and I had a special bond, sharing many special moments together. We were always there to support each other. Ray was a member of The Ottawa Curling club for 25 years, enjoyed skiing, a terrible golfer, and a proud volunteer of the Irish society of Ottawa. Rays favorite band was Chicago we enjoyed their concert together with Suzanne at Theatre St. Denis a few years back. Las Vegas trip with our dad and so many laughs. He had great hair and a great sense of humour and always good advise. See you later bro!!!xooxox

Suzanne and Family, my deepest sympathy. Thank you for the special care and love you gave to my brother through his trying times. We can shed tears that he is gone, or we can smile because he lived a great life. We can open our eyes and see the traces he has left because wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. I will miss my brother. Diane
