Remembrance of Miss Revellee Griffiths lovingly called Gertel with mixed feelings. Some elements of her life were amusing while some were endearing moments and hardships.
We remember when she and her older sister, Monica came to Kingston to their stepmom lovingly called Aunt Lou.
This relocation as a young girl did not end well.
Both sisters were discharged by Their Aunt Lou.
They were rescued by their father's cousin, Aunt Rose who took them in. Eventually their dad migrated to England and soon after Monica joined him and Revellee (Gertel) was left behind to fend for herself on the cusp of her teenage years. She started working at a very young age while her sister in England pursued a career in Nursing. Over the years, she was fiercely independent, aggressive and not a ,'push over'. She had two daughters Judith (Betty) and Odette. Although Judith had a terrible accident at a tender age, Revellee remained strong, attending to her motherly duties when she can while maintaining a social life filled with financial and medical upheavals. After experiencing a fire she migrated to Canada with her girls. She always worked, worrying about her two girls, then a doting grandma. She will tell you as it is with a lot of less colorful words. A personality to be reckoned with. RIP
