What Exactly is Cremation?
Cremation is a method of final disposition of a human body through burning, once a person is deceased, to reduce them to ash. This process takes place in a crematorium, in a cremation furnace that is heated to around 1,000 to 1,200 degrees Celsius.
Cremation vs Incineration: Is there a Difference?
The terms “cremation” and “incineration” actually refer to the same process. In actuality, referring to a “human incineration” is a lexical error: the word “incineration” refers to the burning of objects or trash.
Why Choose Cremation?
Although no one likes to think of themselves as a dead body, the choice between a burial and cremation is inevitable. Moreover, we do strongly recommend that you come to this decision while making your funeral prearrangements so that your grieving loved ones will not have to do it for you.
The cost for a cremation is generally less expensive than for a burial. In fact, a burial includes costs related to the choice of a casket, the purchase of a burial plot in a cemetery and a tombstone, on top of embalmment for the viewing.
You should, however, take note that an urn can also be buried in a plot if you wish, which will facilitate transport and the burial itself compared to a burial in a casket. In general terms, planning for a funeral is much simpler in the case of cremation.
Finally, cremation is also the most eco-friendly option. The chemicals used for embalming can contaminate our water sources and caskets can also include contaminants as well. Cremation is also an excellent way to save space.
The Price for Cremation in Quebec
The price for cremation in Quebec varies according to what services are included. If basic cremation costs are around $ 350 to $ 390, you must also plan for the purchase of an urn and a cremation casket, along with other legal fees.
In average, the price for a cremation with an urn is around $ 720 to $ 990 in Quebec, while the average price for transport and legal feels is around $ 1,200 and $ 1,400. For an all-inclusive cremation service, you can expect to pay between $ 2,000 and $ 5,000 depending on the selected services.
When it comes to a funeral that includes a burial, you can expect to pay between $ 5,000 and $ 10,000, and even more.

What does a Cremation Ceremony Entail?
After a loved one has deceased, they will be transported to the crematorium; the transport coordinator will place the body in the cremation casket you have selected. They will then proceed to the verification of the authorization documents and the death certificate, which must be signed by the doctor or the coroner.
The cremation can then take place, with the family present or not, according to your wishes. The technician will first ensure they have the correct body, and then proceed to the cremation, which lasts around 90 minutes, followed by a 2 hour cooling period. The remaining bones will be reduced to ashes.
The ashes will then be transferred to the urn, and produce an identifying token and a cremation certificate. The funeral home will then contact you to plan for when the ashes will be handed over to you.
There are several options available to you at this point: the funeral urn can be buried, exposed in a columbarium or displayed in a family home. Dispersing ashes in nature like in a water bed, for example, is a popular choice.
