1946-2026
Gerald Willett, known to all as Gerry, passed away peacefully in his beloved apartment in Montreal on June 3, 2026, just days before his 80th birthday.
Gerry was born on June 16, 1946, in Cascapédia, Quebec, to Martha Peterson and Walter Willett. He was the youngest of ten children. At the age of 17, Gerry left home to pursue his studies in Montreal. Upon completing his education, he spent a brief time in Toronto before returning to Montreal, the city he loved and called home for more than five decades.
Gerry dedicated his life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. He worked for many years at the Royal Victoria Hospital and concluded his career at the Belvedere Residence in Montreal. Caring for people was never simply a job to Gerry—it was who he was. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Although Gerry loved Montreal, his apartment, his many friends, and his work, some of his happiest moments were spent in the Gaspé region. He cherished returning to his childhood home in Cascapédia, where he enjoyed warm summer days, a cup of coffee, good conversation, and perhaps a cigarette on the patio while reminiscing about days gone by.
Gerry is survived and will be deeply missed by his brothers, Norman (Judy) and Kenneth (Ann), as well as his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Martha and Walter Willett, and by his siblings Betty, Marguerite, George, Jack, Harold, Rita, and Mona.
In accordance with his wishes, Gerry's final resting place will be at St. Jules Cemetery, alongside his parents and siblings. Details regarding the burial and any memorial services will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Gerry's friends and colleagues whose companionship and support enriched his life throughout the years. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering dedication to those around him.
