With heavy hearts, we announce that Gertrude "Gertie" May Saunders (born Nales) passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 3, 2026, in Montreal, Quebec, at the age of 98.
Gertie brought joy to everyone she met during her years at Eaton's, where she built lasting friendships with colleagues and customers alike. A passionate cook, her kitchen was always the heart of her home, filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of her famous cheesecake, which became the stuff of legend among family and friends. Gertie's generous spirit shone brightly through her volunteer work at the Westmount Contactivity Center, where she touched countless lives with her warmth and kindness.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband David, her son Bruce, and her grandson Jason.
Gertie is lovingly remembered by her children Billy, Dwight, and Sharon; her grandchildren William, Christina, Melissa, and Frank; her great-grandchildren Brandon, Megan, Zachary, and Draven; and her sister Drucilla Gutierriez (Richard). She was predeceased by her sister Christina Starks (Frank) and her brother Robert Nurse (Noella). Gertie will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
As per Gertie's wishes, no services will be held.
